Welding Engineer Intern

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
·        Implements welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties of metal alloys, and engineering principles. Conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, modify current welding methods/techniques, and discover new patterns of welding phenomena.
·        Conducts welder performance qualification tests (WPQs) and weld procedure qualification tests (PQRs) to train the welding staff on new and existing weld procedures.
·        Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, preheat and interpass temperature requirements.
·        Create weld data sheets and maintain other documents for control of welding processes on the plant floor.
·        Works closely with Quality department to ensure that welds are being made in accordance with W International procedures and the specifications to which the job is held in compliance with.
·        Contacts defense customers and engineering personnel to exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters.
·        Helps with VPAR submission for approval of welding procedures and changes to engineering design per welding capabilities and engineering limitations.
·        Read/Interpret defense drawings to determine applicable weld procedures and restrictions of welding related standard clauses.
·        May perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
