POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Buyer/Planner will manage day to day supply chain initiatives and activities for multiple commodities in accordance with the strategic business requirements set forth by the Operations department. The successful candidate will be responsible for all tactical aspects of supply chain including day to day ordering of materials, management of MRP planning parameters, communication, and issue resolution with suppliers, improving supplier performance, and management of inventory investment and turnover.
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
  • Complete the required daily routine of MRP actions and associated analysis, problem solving, and reporting to maintain timely flow of purchased material and communication regarding delivery dates
  • Maintain accurate system data for all purchase and planning parameters including lead-times, price, lot sizes, minimums, and multiples
  • Actively seek alternate sources or substitutions to proactively solve material availability issues while seeking to optimize lead-time, price, and inventory investment
  • Negotiate pricing and commercial terms with suppliers to drive a favorable total cost solution
  • Proactively manage suppliers and shipments to optimize freight consolidation program 
  • Analyze slow moving inventory to access root cause, identify rework/substitution opportunities, identify solutions, and most cost-effective actions for disposition
  • Provides Phase In/Phase Out planning for new product introductions with regard to demand planning, material planning, inventory ramp-up (or ramp-down) for optimal consumption of working capital investment
  • Develops close working relationships will all suppliers
  • Be the point person for supplier’s commercial and/or technical questions and requests
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the department and organization as required
  • Work cross functionally with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Receiving, Finance, Sales and Customer Service to share information on current business issues and meet company demands
  • Other duties as assigned by management. 
 
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of proven experience as a buyer in a manufacturing environment
  • APICS and/or ISM certification is preferred
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced high mix manufacturing environment
  • Commodity experience in purchasing plastics, packaging materials, metal stampings, subassemblies, and electronics
  •  Proficient in MS Office, including MS Excel. Oracle Experience is preferred
  • Proficient with utilization of MPR, ERP, and material optimization theories
  • Previous experience with demand planning or forecasting is preferred.
  • ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed
