RECRUITMENT: (OPEN) The Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is recruiting for the Transportation Engineer I (TE I) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill current and future vacancies in this classification throughout the entire agency.
NATURE OF WORK: Office of Material Technology Engineers will perform a wide variety of materials-related tasks, including:
  • Pavement and geotechnical engineering,
  • Pavement asset management,
  • Inspections of bridges and sign structures,
  • Coatings and other manufactured and fabricated structural material components,
  • Quality assurance and quality control testing of materials related to soils and aggregates in the laboratory and field,
  • GAB Plants inspections,
  • Aggregate quarries visits,
  • Construction projects inspections,
  • Sampling and testing, and
  • Manages nuclear gauge radiation safety program.

Material quality services are completed through laboratory and field operations in all the major material disciplines (soils, aggregate, metals, structures, asphalt, concrete coatings and paints). For more information about the Office of Material Technology visit our website here!

District Construction Engineers will be performing professional construction inspection, supervision & management, and other engineering work related to the implementation of the District Construction Project Management Program. This job requires technical and administrative work on the application of construction management, engineering and inspection practices and principles related to a variety of construction projects including:
  • Roads,
  • Bridges,
  • Storm water management facilities,
  • Drainage systems,
  • Signal works,
  • Water transmission mains,
  • Stream and outfall restoration, and
  • Noise walls construction work.

This position requires the Engineer to work on construction project field offices and to interact with engineers, contractors, consultants, the public, residents, and personnel of other MDOT SHA offices.

Minimum Qualifications:
 
Education for Operation and Materials Track: Possession of a Bachelor's from an accredited university in any of the following: Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Geological Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Welding Engineering.
  
 Experience: None required.
