The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Chemical Biological Center (CCDC-CBC) serves as the Department of Defense's primary technical organization for non-medical chemical and biological defense. It provides an extraordinary capability against emerging biological and chemical threats by merging intelligence assessments with its world-renowned expertise. CCDC-CBC delivers a unique blend of distinguished scientists and engineers to research and analyze the emerging threats and technological advances.

As an ORISE participant, you will have an opportunity to learn and support the life cycle of technical support of U.S. Army-fielded chemical and biological detectors, decontamination systems, collective protection systems, and masks. Under the guidance of a mentor, you will partake in the development, modification, test and evaluation, assessment, training, fielding, and sustainment activities for these items. During this opportunity, you will also gain educational benefits from participating in this research project and learning about topics such as:

  1. Chemical and biological detectors
  2. Decontamination systems
  3. Collective protection systems and masks and how to repair and operate them
  4. Configuration management and how to develop Engineering Change Proposals
  5. Updates to government technical manuals
  6. Technical database management
  7. Evaluation of chemical and biological detectors, chemical decontamination systems, and collective protection systems and masks

Appointment Length

This appointment is a 12-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant. Desired start date 6/1/21.

Participant Benefits

Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by USACCBC. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

  • Relocation Allowance
  • Training and Travel Allowance

Nature of Appointment

The Participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

Qualifications

An ideal candidate will have a B.S. or M.S. in Engineering (i.e. general, chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering)

Eligibility Requirements

  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen Only
  • Degree: Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree received within the last 36 months or anticipated to be received by 5/31/2021 11:59:00 PM.
  • Overall GPA: 3.30
