Lead Clinical Pharmacist

The Lead Clinical Pharmacist will work with the Clinical pharmacy staff to ensure appropriate training, compliance to regulatory standards (e.g. Joint Commission, CMS, Board of Pharmacy, USP, DEA, OSHA, etc.) and ProMedica standards and policies. Assists in the coordination of staff schedules and daily assignments ensuring appropriate levels of 24/7 coverage for vacations holidays and weekends. Coordinates pharmacy operational changes with clinical pharmacists and assists the pharmacy director with quality assurance functions and process improvement. Assists with completion of employee evaluations.
Accountablilities
  • Supervise clinical pharmacists, residents (if applicable), pharmacy learners, and other pharmacy staff.
  • Coach and provide feedback to pharmacists and other pharmacy staff on areas for improvement
  • Recruit, interview, and hire pharmacists and/or residents.
  • Maintains a clinical practice within the hospital
  • Perform annual evaluations and assure competencies are completed for direct report pharmacists and/or residents.
  • Act as the Pharmacy Residency Director for the Acute Care PGY1 program (if applicable).
  • Define clinical pharmacy practice and create metrics to monitor clinical impact to patient care
  • Provide / coordinate education to pharmacy and hospital staff
  • Design and support clinical programs to integrate and optimize utilization of pharmacy learners
  • Improve patient care by optimizing medication usage
  • Implement evidenced based practice guidelines
  • Provide expertise in drug information questions and identification of drug-related problems
  • Collect pharmacy quality data and report to appropriate groups
  • Collaborate with physicians to improve patient care outcomes
  • Assist with formulary review
  • Collaborate with inventory specialists to provide direction regarding medication shortages
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Education: PharmD; Residency required for precepting residents.
  • Skills: Proven communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel. Demonstrated knowledge of electronic pharmacy applications.
  • Years of Experience: Five years of experience as a pharmacist in an acute care hospital. 
  • License: Pharmacist licensure in current state of practice.
  • Certification:  Board Certification recommended

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Personal Protective Equipment: may need to use N-95 or CAPR, likely will need to use masks, gloves, eye protection and potentially face shield.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to lift light materials. Non-material handling of continuous sitting and reaching; frequent standing; occasional squatting, kneeling, walking, and stairs. Must be able to move about and between workstations. Must be able to differentiate colors
