Materials/Assay Development Scientist - Biomedical Engineering and Sciences

We are currently seeking a Materials/Assay Development Scientist for our Biomedical Engineering and Sciences Practice in Natick, MA. In this role you will work as part of a team in support of our growing portfolio of services to the life sciences industry. Candidates should have an advanced degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) with some experience related to biotech, medtech, pharmaceuticals, biologics or associated characterization technologies. 

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Analyzing scientific information to address biological, materials science, and polymer matters related to the use of materials in applications focused on in vitro diagnostics, but also including a wide range of topics from medical devices and pharmaceuticals to consumer products and electronics
  • Performing testing and analysis of biological and polymeric materials, including antimicrobial coatings, bioanalytical investigations, and bio-fouling
  • Analyzing root causes on a wide variety of failures at the interface of materials and biology related to issues arising in development, manufacturing or use of products 
  • Writing technical reports for industry and for litigation 
  • Gathering information and conveying technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, business, law and industry

You will have the following skills and qualifications:
  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Biophysics, Immunology, or related discipline
  • A strong theoretical and practical knowledge of various biological assays (such as nucleic acid amplification tests, ELISA, lateral flow immunoassays, and/or cell-based assays) and how material interactions can impact those assays
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated written communication skills in addition to research publications are a plus
  • Superior problem-solving abilities
  • Strong educational and publication credentials
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills
  • Practical testing and applications understanding in a manufacturing or R&D environment is a plus
  • Microfluidics, point-of-care diagnostics, clinical diagnostics, biological sample preparation, medical wearables, and/or molecular biology experience is a plus
  • Understanding of biomaterials, biocompatibility, and biomedical applications of materials is a plus
