VALUE STREAM PRODUCT ENGINEER – MECHANICAL ROLE SUMMARY:
The Value Stream Product Engineer-Mechanical will be a member of one of the the Meters and Instruments (M&I) value streams. In this role, the engineer will complete design and analysis projects to benefit the Value Stream’s product while working closely with other mechanical, software, and electrical engineers, as well as cross functional groups like marketing, sales, sourcing, quality, testing, and manufacturing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Apply fundamental engineering principles in a practical manner to achieve solutions. Project types include specification creation, component selection, structural analysis, root cause analysis, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), computer aided design (CAD) work, research and development (R&D) and production procedures and testing, regulatory standard interpretation, voice-of-customer interpretation, controls and data acquisition, data processing, optimization, and feasibility studies.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills are required. The engineer will author technical documentation and make presentations or participate in meetings to effectively communicate while keeping intended audience in mind.
  • Interface with engineers of other disciplines and develop expertise outside of core competency. Creation of assembly, cable, & wiring diagram drawings requires electrical schematic and specification interpretation.
  • Use PTC Creo & AutoCAD to create and revise drawings and BOMS including the following types: machining, assembly, general arrangement, labels, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and cable/harness. The engineer will be required to package and review work of designer draftsmen.
  • Understand and show compliance with product requirements.

  • Design new products based on input from vendors, marketing, sales, quality, manufacturing, testing, & customer support representatives
  • Learn and use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software like document control workflows, parts database queries, shared drives, and a quality management system.
  • 3-D print concepts.
  • Consider design details like ease-of-manufacture, cost, obsolescence, function feasibility, and backwards-compatibility. Consider revision impact like disposition of raw material, work in progress, and field parts.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Strong competency with PTC Creo (ProE) and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations (machine, cast, extrude, weld, etc.), machine elements (springs, bearings, gears, fasteners, seals, etc.), material selection, & hand/power tools.
DESIRED SKILLS
