Mobility Emissions Research Engineer

Our Detroit Research Center conducts engine-focused research and develops next-generation liquid fuels for current and future global transportation needs. Located in Detroit’s Novi suburb, the center is near the nation’s leading automotive manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers that help shape the future of the transportation industry.

Basic Function
Conduct scientific research using experimental and modelling tools on processes for reducing CO2 and criteria pollutants in exhaust gas produced from internal combustion engines.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and run process models to evaluate potential processes, interpret experimental data, and improve testing efficiency
  •  Conduct techno-economic analysis of various process concepts, including identification of process technologies, identification of major process units, equipment cost and sizing, and calculation of CAPEX and OPEX
  • Identify and select practical promising new material for improving existing processes, such as catalysts and sorbents; develop methods for testing and selecting the best materials for use in the real world
  • Identification and procurement of parts, materials and other equipment
  • Track budgets, timelines, and project deliverables
  • Conduct and lead experimental research
  • Develop experimental/analytical methods and train technicians to carry out routine work
  • Read and comprehend published, handwritten, and typewritten materials, company forms, and computer printouts
  • Travel to meetings, seminars, and to vendor offices in Dhahran, Houston and throughout North America
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
  • B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related field; MSE or PhD in chemical engineering preferred
  • Five (5) year’s work experience in process engineering, process modelling, applied process chemistry, vehicle aftertreatment systems or other relevant applied engineering research experience
  • Process engineering research experience on CO2 capture processes
  • Experience with process modelling software such as ASPEN Hysys, ASPEN Plus, gPROMS, Petro-SIM, or similar
  • Familiarity with various CO2 capture processes and vehicle aftertreatment systems and materials
  • Familiarity with refinery processes, operations, and techno-economic modelling
  • Familiarity with analytical chemistry techniques, such as titration, chromatography, and FTIR
  • Familiarity with vehicle and engine testing, fuel cells and fuel reforming
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
