Product Welding Engineer

Job Title: Product Welding Engineer                                                                                                                      

Reports to:   Principal Welding Engineer

Position Summary:
Apply welding knowledge and physics to evaluate weld joints and processes for manufacturing feasibility. Evaluate various welding applications and processes. Ability to analyze product designs, materials, testing of weld processes to customer specifications.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
·        Provide key input into development of weld joint designs and weld process on new programs.
·        Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing to establish requirements for design and manufacturing principles on various welding processes.
·        Develop guidelines, procedures, and templates for weld design and manufacturing.
·        Create welding and joining guidelines for new materials.
·        Work with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to develop testing requirements and procedures.
·        Support prototype builds on new programs and document lessons learned.
·        Review testing analysis of metallurgical tests.
·        Develop and test weld parameters on new materials.
·        Review weld joint design for manufacturing feasibility per weld process.
·        Understanding of customer specifications and testing procedures.
·        Attend deign reviews and provide technical advice.
·        Write technical specifications and procedure for joining processes.
·        Evaluate design changes that impact welding processes.
·        Work with the tool shop to design and build test fixtures.
·        Perform weld study capability tests with equipment manufactures to evaluate process and materials.
·        Guide design for best weld process for the application.
·        Evaluate new joining processes.
 
 
Qualifications:
·        Bachelor of Science in Weld Engineering Technology or equivalent.
·        Knowledge of GMAW, LBW, RSW, and RPW process and applications.
·        Knowledge in robotic welding and manufacturing.
·        “Hands On” welding experience is preferred.
·        Strong technical, computer, writing, and communicating skills.
·        Ability to understand drawings and GD & T.
·        Understands tooling design and concepts is preferred.
·        Ability to apply mathematics and geometry for design calculations.
·        Proficient in Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Word, and CAD.
·        Willing to travel.
