Manufacturing Engineer - Welding

Summary: This position works as a liaison between the product engineering team and manufacturing operations with a primary focus on welding. Product design support will come in the form of providing input on welding operations and joint design. Manufacturing responsibilities include fixture design, training and support of the welding team, and process development and qualification for both manual and mechanized welding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support product design team by providing input on welding operations and joint design
  • Identify tooling and fixture needs and ensure the needed resources are in place for production
  • Design and implement welding fixtures using Solidworks
  • Use technologies including automation and robotics to improve product quality and increase capacity
  • Train and aid in the skills development of the welding team
  • WPS development and welder qualification
  • Other duties as assigned. This includes activities unrelated to welding that are in support of the companies needs and objectives.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Epicor ERP, Solidworks)
  • Strong background in GMAW of medium to heavy steel components.
  • Familiar with TIG welding steel components
  • Experience with weld process development and welder qualification
  • Advanced math and blueprint reading skills including a basic understanding of GD&T
  • Fixture design experience using Solidworks or equivalent
Education / Training / Experience
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Welding Engineering Technology. Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of experience with GMAW in a production environment
  • 2+ years of fixture design using Solidworks or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of robotic welding experience
  • AWS Certified Weld Inspector or the ability to become certified within 90 days from the date of hire
