Programmer and Systems Developer

K-MAR-105 Association and Kansas Farm Management Association
 
The K-MAR-105 Association (Kansas – Management, Analysis and Research for 105 counties) is a not-for-profit education corporation associated with the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University, K-State Research and Extension, and the Kansas Farm Management Association program (KFMA). KMAR has provided data storage and retrieval, financial accounting systems and financial performance analysis to agricultural producers and for university research since 1968.
 
TITLE: Programmer and Systems Developer, K-MAR-105 Association
This position is an appointment of the K-MAR-105 Association providing programming support for the software and data management systems used within the KFMA program.
 
LOCATION: 303 Waters Hall, 1603 Old Claflin Road, Manhattan, Kansas
 
RESPONSIBILTIES: To accomplish the association’s mission, KMAR staff work closely with the state leadership of the KFMA program, with Department of Agricultural Economics faculty and with the eleven offices of the six KFMA associations located across Kansas.
 
Specific responsibilities of the Programmer and Systems Developer include:
·       Maintenance of existing analysis software and research database using .Net Microsoft technologies (C# with MVC, SQL Server); Web development for most of the software
·       Diagnose and resolve problems reported by clients (KFMA Economists and staff working in the KFMA program, and researchers in the Department of Agricultural Economics)
·       Monitor and evaluate system performance; identify gaps between current systems and program needs; plan design and implement improved systems where needed.
·       Set up secure and reliable front-end dashboard for data entry and data access.
·       Design, develop, implement new software using .Net Microsoft technologies under the direction of the Associate Director and Executive Director of the KFMA program.
·       Manage policies and procedures to maintain data security; protect the reliability, integrity, availability and functionality of the KMAR systems and KFMA databank; identify risks and security needs.
·       Provide input to the decision-making process regarding utilization of emerging technologies and development of future technology plans.
·       Write and maintain program documentation.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
Required—
·       Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
·       Introductory knowledge and education in .Net C# software development, database design and systems administration
·       Introductory knowledge and education in web development
·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical professionals
·       Willingness to learn and desire to work as part of a team
Preferred—
·       Strong technical background in .Net C# software development, database design and systems administration
·       Experience in web development using Microsoft technologies
·       Experience with Microsoft SQL Server including tuning, schema design, relations, stored procedures and functions
·       Experience providing technology solutions for agriculture
·       Experience providing support to multiple remote sites
·       Familiarity with Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Language Integrated Query (LINQ)
·       Basic knowledge and understanding of Kansas agriculture
