Center Manager, Department of Cell & Developmental Biology

The Center Manager is part of the Weaver laboratory in the Department of Cell and Developmental biology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and is a key manager of grants and scientific projects in the Weaver laboratory. The major responsibility will be to help manage a Program Project Grant (PPG) that is directed by Dr. Alissa Weaver and spans multiple laboratories at Vanderbilt University. This PPG includes 3 Projects and Cores, all devoted to understanding how RNA is trafficked into extracellular vesicles (EVs) in colon cancer cells and the importance of RNA-containing EVs for colon cancer progression. The Center Manager will be responsible for organizing and preparing progress reports for the program, working with administrative support to organize seminars, external advisory board meetings, and retreats. The manager will also help manage the extracellular vesicle purification and analysis core that is part of the PPG. The manager will also help with scientific writing in the Weaver laboratory, including preparing progress reports for other grants, helping to write invited review articles, and other scientific manuscripts. This position requires a collaborative scientist who is adept at and enjoys scientific writing and is interested in managing scientific projects. The Center Manager will work closely with Dr. Weaver to achieve these goals.

The Weaver laboratory performs state-of-the art research in the fields of extracellular vesicles, cancer, cell motility, cytoskeleton, membrane trafficking, and cancer metastasis. We use cell biological, biochemical, molecular, whole animal, and quantitative systems biology approaches to understand the fundamental functions of extracellular vesicles in normal health and disease and how alterations in basic cellular processes lead to cancer invasiveness and aggressiveness.
