Health & Safety Specialist

JOB SUMMARY
 
The Health and Safety Specialist helps prevent workplace injuries and reduce health risks. In this position, you will travel to worksites to investigate complaints and conduct regular audits, identifying potential risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Based on these audits, you develop and implement risk reduction strategies. As part of your risk reduction duties, you may promote safety awareness among our employees by leading seminars or distributing informational material on emergency response plans.

 MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks. Ensures regulatory compliance.
  • Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company.
  • Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
  • Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
  • Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
  • Evaluate programs on workplace health and safety
  • Educate employers and workers about workplace safety by preparing and providing training programs
  • Demonstrate the correct use of safety equipment
  • Investigate incidents and accidents to identify what caused them and how they might be prevented
  • Stay up to date with regulatory changes and update SOPs as needed
  • Investigate workplace accidents and complaints
  • Assist with emergency response plans
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MAIN REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor Degree in related areas
  • Minimum 30 hour OSHA certification
  • Five years of related experience preferred in a multi-site Manufacturing industry.

EXPERIENCE
  • 3 + years of experience in manual manufacturing industries
  • Experience in multi-site companies
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Compliance experience in the industry
  • Bilingual communication skills a plus (English/Spanish)
  • CPR/First Aid certification a plus
