Research Technician II, Protein Synthesis Control

Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch’s pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation’s first cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women’s Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. Careers Start Here.
At Fred Hutch, we believe that the innovation, collaboration, and rigor that result from diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases. The Hsieh Lab in the Division of Human Biology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is looking for a highly motivated individual who is interested in studying how the way cells make proteins or protein synthesis control ultimately determine specific behaviors that can lead to and potentiate cancer. Our work will include mechanistic studies in cell lines, mouse models, and human tissue samples with the ultimate goal of learning how to target and drug the protein synthesis machinery. The individual will be responsible for performing investigative lab work at the bench along side Dr. Hsieh, postdoctoral fellows and existing Research Technician. The ability to work in a team will be essential.
Responsibilities
The technician will work under the direction of the Dr. Hsieh and other high-level laboratory personnel. The candidate’s time will be divided into two parts: 80% effort to conduct cutting edge research and 20% effort for laboratory maintenance. Dr. Hsieh or a senior postdoctoral fellow will initially work closely with the technician, but it is anticipated that they will be able to drive their own project after they demonstrate proficiency with all necessary techniques.

A statement describing your commitment and contributions toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in your career or that will be made through work at Fred Hutch is requested of all finalists.
