The Shorelands and Environmental Assistance (SEA) program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill an Aquaculture Water Quality Certification (WQC) Coordinator (Environmental Specialist 2) position. This position will work out of our Headquarters Building in Lacey, WA.
The Aquaculture Water Quality Certification (WQC) Coordinator position provides routine professional level review of aquaculture requests for 401 Water Quality Certifications and determines if the project needs to be assigned to senior staff. This position will also provide data entry into the Aquatic database and backup to other federal permit coordinators in the Unit

The mission of the Department of Ecology is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington's land, air and water for current and future generations. 
The mission of the SEA Program is to support community conservation efforts for our shorelands, wetlands, and floodplains. 
Some of the key work activities of the Aquaculture Water Quality Certification (WQC) Coordinator position include:
  • Works on a dynamic Team to process applications and help the public understand the process.
  • Reviews application material to determine completeness and accuracy.
  • Enters information into a database and provides reports.
  • Advises senior-level staff and management on the status of projects.
  • Responds to emails from the public on the permit process and status of applications.
  • Works on a team that handles a large volume of applications which needs to be conducted in an organized manner.
  • Makes a lot of decisions regarding how to handle applications and other documents that come in for processing. 
The successful candidate will be working with a great team that is responsible for protecting the environment through the review of projects needing permits. This position will be exposed to the majority of the Ecology programs and learn how the agency works along with the various laws that we implement.
The team is very committed to getting the job done as a team and supports each other. They communicate and plan together on a daily bases, they have each other’s back!
This position will need to deal with challenging customers at times and the person will need to be able to work in a team environment.
Please Note: This is a project position that is funded until June 30, 2021.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field and one year of professional level experience in environmental analysis or control, or environmental planning. 
OR 
One year of experience as an Environmental Specialist 1. 
OR 
A Master's degree in one of the above fields.
Desired Qualifications:
  • At least one year of experience reviewing and processing application or similar documents.
  • Experience working in databases.
  • Experience working with SharePoint
  • Basic knowledge of the Clean Water Act and/or Coastal Zone Management Act. 
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
  •  Must possess a valid driver's license.
