Master Production Planner - Industrial Computer System Supply Chain

Job Title: Master Production Planner

Summary:
Demonstrates leadership through the demand scheduling process. Plans and executes supply chain activities to achieve company objectives related to customer delivery schedules, revenue targets, and inventory investment, under limited supervision. Supports management in the development of team members. Utilizes a range of data, modeling, and planning tools to balance supply and demand. Coordinates activities that support the Sales and Operations Process.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
 

  • Analyze product forecasts and develop the Master Production Schedule (MPS) for approved assemblies. Loads and maintains the Master Production Schedule for each product into the ERP system, and for communicating all schedule changes that occur on the shop floor.
  • Maintain system data and shop floor schedule to effectively support the production and inventory plans, goals and objectives.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the short and long-term capacity plan for all product families.
  • Facilitate the expediting of supply on backorder and/or low inventory with Buyers and Planners.
  • Meet 100% on-time delivery objectives for customer requests, Contec manufactured item commitments, and MPS adherence.
  • Initiate analysis to improve MPS schedule adherence and maintain control of inventory levels.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in ERP tools related to master scheduling, specifically the capacity planning and master scheduling workbenches in ERP and evaluating/implement tools that will improve MPS integrity.
  • Manage and report inventory risk associated with the MPS.
  • Mitigate schedule risk through the development of effective contingency supply plans.
  • Approve scheduled production dates for expedite requests based on the capacity available.
  • Manage excess and obsolete material, including root cause analysis and recommendations for disposition.
  • Communicate with all cross-functional areas of the organization to identify problems and take appropriate corrective actions related to production scheduling and material related issues.
  • Investigate, test and propose changes to the manufacturing controls software (MRP) to enhance the existing configuration.
  • Lead and facilitate Production and Internal Operating Plan meetings.
  • Provides analysis in support of the Sales and Operations Planning process and prepares presentations for an executive audience.
  • Analyzes the root causes of planning and execution process failures. Recommends corrective actions from internal and external supply chain partners.
  • Support the operations staff with the creation of reports and complex data manipulation from various sources.
  • Support executive management with analysis and presentation material in support of corporate reporting.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position is a working lead with individual contributor activities and no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business data analytics and/or supply chain operations discipline or possess the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of demonstrated effective materials planning experience in a high-mix low volume production environment. 
  • Professional experience with ERP systems in production, planning, supply chain, and/or inventory analysis and control roles.
  • Sales and Operations Forecast Planning experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing concepts to include planning consignment, kanban, PMI agreements, Min/Max, blanket and discrete orders.
  • Experience in ERP migration/transition from one system to a new ERP system (Netsuite).
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
APICS CPIM and/or CSCP certification preferred, or commitment to earn within 3 years.
 
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
 
Mathematical Skills:
Understanding of how to calculate, interpret and apply Descriptive Statistics in a manufacturing environment. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and statistics.
                                                                                      
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
Computer Skills:
Prior Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software experience, preferably in Aptean Intuitive ERP or Oracle Netsuite. Advanced Excel skills required.
