Our global locations include 66 manufacturing and distribution centers in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, Australia, and New Zealand with over 4,000 employees.
 
Opening and Location
We are currently searching for an Engineer for the Atkore Leadership Development Program, to be based out of a variety of facilities, including New Bedford, MA; Harvey, IL; or Weatherford, TX. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this person will have a unique opportunity to contribute to the overall success of the manufacturing operations, product innovation, and personal leadership development.
The ideal candidate must be able to work in a team-based environment, have strong leadership capabilities, and overall business acumen to include financial understanding and contribute significant results to strategic objectives.
This is a TWO-YEAR rotational program.
Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist in the development of the future state "Lean Vision" of the operation
  • Support and work through value stream action plans and implement any countermeasures to ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met, including those related to safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity.
  • Eliminate chronic problems through the use of various problem solving techniques.
  • Work closely with floor supervision and (union and non-union) workers to ensure equipment is working properly and to troubleshoot any operational problems
  • Keep equipment operational by coordinating work through maintenance or outside resources to guarantee all improvements or other maintenance items are implemented in a timely manner
  • Work within established engineering standards to maintain proper documentation and procedures
  • Coordinate and assist continuous improvement teams in the development and implementation of continuous improvement project plans, including helping the team to determine the objective, scope, target, timeline, budget, milestones, and allocation of resources
  • Develop and help maintain standard work for all processes and positions, along with working with other teams to share best practices with respect to following & modifying standard work
  • Identify and share lean manufacturing processes and tools with other teams inside and outside the plant in order to achieve commonality and establish best practices within the company
  • Facilitate and participate in kaizen events and projects to drive continuous improvement throughout the organization
  • Ensure lean principals (5S, Standard Work, TPM, etc.) are implemented in any new or redesigned piece of equipment
  • Champion cost savings projects by working with management teams and multidisciplinary teams
  • Prepare labor, material, tooling, and equipment cost estimates for new or redesigned equipment
  • Research and develop capital equipment requisitions with justification along with supporting through start-up
  • Maintain a detailed project schedule for engineering development, tooling, and product launch activities
  • Fully understand customer requirements to develop suitable products for them
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems
  • Work on product quality and related quality function
  • Ensure effective manufacturing process control program that maintain focus on prevention of internal rejects
  • Support plant cost reduction and process improvement projects through the use of Quality tools such as process capability, Pareto analysis, and other six sigma/lean tools
  • Write protocols and perform validations of new/improved materials and processes
  • Design/Improve/Contribute to (new) product development
  • Manage and organize technical data
  • Understand industry and regulatory standards
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering; required
  • Ability to work within the manufacturing methods and procedures
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Excellent teaming and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter and highly self-motivated
  • Ability to manage multiple projects of varying size and/or complexity including CERs
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills within a process, mechanical or electrical
  • Strong Microsoft Office are required
  • SolidWorks or related 3D design software desirable
  • Bias for action and preference for hands on engagement
  • Ability to travel 50%
  • Willing to relocate at conclusion of assignment period
