Waste Water Engineer

Waste Water Engineer

GESS International U.S. is looking for highly motivated college students, graduating and or graduated for positions as Waste Water Engineers with education in waste water treatment, water nutrient management in the agriculture and municipal waste water treatment sectors.

A bonus will be education with knowledge and or experience in Anaerobic Digestion processes consisting of co-digestion of animal waste and high cellulosic Energy and Crop Residues mixed to produce biogas upgraded to Renewable Natural Gas.

The preferred Candidate will have the ability and desire to get an understanding of North Carolina and Missouri DEQ Water Quality Rules, Regulations and Guidelines. EPA Waste Water and Water Nutrient Standards as they pertain to Agriculture Waste Water and Feed stocks. Experience in waste water management for swine farming or in the Swine Industry as well as municipal waste treatment would also be extremely helpful.

Position will be responsible for cooperation in managing with engineering, technical and laboratory aspects of multi-site in multi-states waste-to-energy (animal waste and high cellulose crops) Biogas to Renewable Natural Gas) projects. This cooperation will include management programs for digestate, effluent waste water and nutrients including, but not limited to programmatic design and approval of waste for the biogas plant.

This position is also responsible for identifying new business opportunities for nutrients and marketable digestate products as well as QA/QC procedures and protocols for these processes:

  • Lead all engineering, design and process improvement related to waste-to-energy projects.
  • Identify process and system issues and lead all aspects of the steps required to achieve full facility/site optimization.
  • Responsible for financial profitability of projects and tasks.
  • Source and summarize multiple vendor quotes for project tasks; summarize options to present to client and/or project manager.
  • Lead the preparation of and approve designs, reports and work plans before client submittal.
  • Plan and procure installation of waste-to-energy waste water treatment and nutrient capture systems in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for obtaining required operational permits and programs to ensure compliance with environmental, local and state regulations; control compliance costs.
  • Review and utilize lab data to aid in process optimization and environmental compliance for permits and company standards.
  • Oversee and guide report preparation to summarize findings and/or outcomes of facility/process modifications; assist the team with other summary reporting required for internal and external purposes.
  • Responsible for group compliance with company and governmental waste water regulations and standards.
  • Participate in local and national waste-to-energy professional organizations; prepare, coordinate and present market and project-specific papers and presentations.
  • Assist in marketing business opportunities with key clients and development of responses to RFP/RFQs.
  • Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.
  • Practice safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Agricultural or Chemical Engineering or similar
  • Degree from an accredited university and similar experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Solid organization and time/project management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently manage multiple responsibilities (i.e. self-starter, self-
  • motivated).
  • English language competency.
  • Ability/willingness to travel when needed.
