Seasonal Research Assistant

Position Description
Under the direction of the Land Conservation Director, the seasonal Research Assistant supports department research efforts by collecting and entering data related to habitat restoration studies with The Arboretum’s natural areas through biodiversity surveys, vegetation monitoring, wildlife monitoring and application of various field methods.  
 
Job Responsibilities
· Assist with research efforts by collecting and entering data related to habitat restoration studies through vegetation and wildlife monitoring and other biological surveys.
·  Maintain detailed data collection records and accurately record observations in the field.
·  Assist with the preparation and presentation of study findings through reports, abstracts, interpretive materials and other written and/or visual means.
·  Support the establishment of new conservation related studies in The Arboretum’s natural areas.
·  Aid in land management activities including invasive species control, herbicide application, project maintenance, mowing, native planting and daily greenhouse operations.
·  Contribute to educational events that support The Arboretum’s mission.
         
Qualifications
· Minimum of two (2) years of college-level education in ecosystems restoration, conservation, ecology, entomology, botany or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
·  Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal).
·  Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically strenuous work.
·  Strong knowledge of central Ohio flora and/or terrestrial invertebrate identification.
·  Ability to regularly work weekends, occasional holidays and evenings as scheduled.
·  Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
·  Regular and timely attendance is essential.
