Staff Environmental Specialist – Entry Level to 4 years of experience

We are seeking candidates that have entry level to 4 years of experience in the fields of Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, Ecology, Plant Science, or Horticulture. Additional backgrounds in landscape architectural and/or environmental planning is desired, but not necessary.

Employment location:

Job Responsibilities:
·        Working with project managers/principals in multiple offices to support and contribute to project design work from master planning and analysis;
·        Serving as a technical resource to support projects and manage tasks and projects;
·        Assisting in the development of research reports, GIS analysis, technical documents, and presentation documents; and
·        Being responsive to managers, project team, and clients in support of project implementation; ensure timely, cost effective, high-quality service, and product delivery.
 
Requirements:
·        Accredited Bachelor degree (required minimum) or Master degree (preferred) in Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, Plant Science, Horticulture, Ecology and/or Environmental Science related field. It is desirable, but not necessary, for candidates to hold duel degrees in Natural Resources, Horticulture, Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Forestry, Urban Design, Environmental Design or Landscape Architecture;
·        Experience and/or a strong foundation in planting and ecological design, plant communities, and restoration planting;
·        Assist and lead in the development of presentations, mapping, technical documents and reports;
·        Serve as a technical resource to support projects;
·        Experience working on public sector and civic policies / environmental governance;
·        Experience with ecological research and report writing;
·        Experience working with government clients, developers, non-profit clients, and community groups; and
·        It is preferred but not required to demonstrate experience facilitating/managing projects.
 
Proficiencies:
·        Competent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
·        Experience researching complex fields and writing reports
·        Experience in plant identification, plant communities, planting design, soil science, ecological succession, and ecosystem services
·        Experience in environmental policy analysis and developing management protocols.
·        High proficiency in GIS and MS Office. (It is desirable that applicants have a proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign).
·        Writing and/or work samples should illustrate the candidate’s strengths.
 
Physical Requirements:
·        Sitting for extended length of time
·        Periodic and multi-day travel to site locations and to facilitate public engagement/meetings
·        Fluency in public speaking in the English Language
·        Fieldwork/ability to travel
·        Valid driver’s license
·        Listening
·        Typing and handwriting
·        Occasional lifting of boxes up to 50lbs
