Ultra High Vacuum Experimentalist Internship

Modern Electron is a Seattle-based startup dedicated to developing breakthrough energy technologies. Our team is developing highly efficient, compact, and scalable solid-state thermionic generators, with the ultimate goal of making electricity cheaper and far more universally available for everyone. Our technology is supported by over $20MM in venture capital funding and by 14 issued patents, with 20+ more patents pending in the US and internationally.

Modern Electron is looking for talented graduate student interns in the physical sciences and engineering fields with experience in high vacuum systems and materials science. As a member of our R&D team, you will join an interdisciplinary group of physicists, chemists, and engineers working on experiments developing and testing Modern Electron’s cutting-edge thermionic converter technology. You will work closely with a senior scientist or engineer on team-based development projects. This role involves hands-on work including developing and evaluating performance materials in ultra-high vacuum (UHV) test setups, running experiments, analyzing results, and troubleshooting.

Modern Electron’s R&D team is a tight-knit and data-driven organization, and our interns regularly spearhead projects and co-author patents.
