In conjunction with their team, welding engineers plan, prepare and execute welding projects in a variety of industrial settings. They frequently assume leadership duties, coordinating with clients and other teams as well as conducting training and quality control procedures for their workgroup. Welding Engineer position is responsible for the performance of Welding Coordinators within the plant and accountable for providing technical information regarding welding and materials to other departments involved in New Car Production. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a high degree of reliability in all-welded products and for developing new welding techniques or improving existing procedures and methods to minimize the cost of the end product. This position’s challenge is to provide improvements in welding techniques and methods that will reduce the Division's production costs while maintaining the quality of welded products. The incumbent represents the Company in various external committees such as ASTM, AWS, AAR, as required. In addition, he/she will be evaluating welding materials, maintaining an Approved Vendor list, and supervising welding procedure tests involving new materials or new processes to ensure conformity with regulations.

Ability to wear safety equipment such as but not limited to safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, earplugs, and respirators
Ability to see and hear the visual and audio safety warnings
Have vision correctable to comply with ASNT TCI-A for inspection activities
Ability to lift and carry 50-pound objects
Ability to enter tank cars via a manway opening approximately 18-20 inches wide and be able to tolerate confined spaces
Ability to climb to the top of and walk on tank cars without fear of heights
Ability to bend, stretch, and crawl to perform inspections
Ability to walk along long lengths of railroad tracks and climb onto various operating platforms typically found on rail-cars to perform field inspections
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering Technology or equivalent in a related field
Minimum of 2 (two) years of experience in a welding manufacturing environment
