Laser Process Engineer

Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):
  • Laser process engineer to develop and sustain processes for innovative electro-optical MEMS devices in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Drive performance, cost, quality, schedule, and safety utilizing manufacturing systems and tools.
  • Respond to process needs as required which also occasionally includes off-shift and on-call support for 24x7 operations.
 
Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Provide process sustaining support for electro-optical MEMS laser processes including: laser cutting, scribing, and bonding.
  • Specify and procure capital equipment for laser processes.
  • Track, analyze, and publish device yield reports.
  • Drive continual process improvement activities to improve yield and capacity.
  • Work closely with equipment and maintenance engineering to troubleshoot issues, develop maintenance plan, and recommend tooling and upgrades.
  • Generate and maintain process documentation.
  • Provide technical support, training, and monitor production personnel.
 
Travel Requirements: 10 - 15%
 
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40+ hours to support 24x7 operation.
 
Education and Experience:
  • BS in Electrical, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or Physics & >3 years’ experience in semiconductor or MEMs manufacturing in Process, Yield, or Process Integration.
 
Required Skills:
  • Experience with laser galvo software (ScanMaster), and laser specific software
  • Understanding of laser parameters such as power, pulse energy, and spot size and their effect on material interactions and down-stream processes
  • Ability to communicate and present technical concepts and analyses in a highly effective manner.
  • Strong background with SPC, formal DOE, statistical analysis (JMP, Minitab, or other), and Matlab or equivalent
  • Direct experience with metrology and materials characterization (SEM, SIMS, XRD, or other)
 
Desired Skills:
  • Experience w/ Python
  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or Physics.
  • FMEA, fault tree, or other equivalent structured problem-solving approaches.
  • Experience with microfluidics both from equipment and process perspective.
  • Experience scaling from development to high volume manufacturing.
