Welding Engineer

The B&W welding engineer will be responsible for both production and engineering support across B&W as it pertains to welding. This individual is responsible for implementing engineering techniques to resolve problems, recommend designs, and improve or develop current welding methods, techniques, and procedures. The welding engineer serves as subject matter expert for the business unit, with consistent technical support and evaluation of welding operations.

  • Develop and implement welding techniques, procedures, and applications for welding processes for use at B&W production facilities.
  • Establish weld schedules for commercial projects. Maximize efficiency by analyzing and planning space requirements, workflow, design layout of equipment, and workforce utilization.
  • Create welding procedures and specifications (WPS) to guide production and welding personnel relating to material processes and specification restrictions.
  • Maintain B&W Weld Standards. Abide by all policies regarding safety rules, audits, regulatory compliance, environmental awareness, and compliance with national code requirements.
  • Provide production support for B&W fabrication facilities and sublet vendors. Lead product and process investigations and prepare technical reports.
  • Manage continuous improvement projects, coordinate tooling activities or reviews, and evaluate proposals for existing and new manufacturing processes. Troubleshoot welding operations as needed.
  • Support B&W field service personnel to ensure continuous control over welding equipment and processes. Responsible for guiding welding processes to ensure compliance with industry and customer specifications.
  • Provide support and participate in applicable codes and standards committees.
  • Maintain adherence to safety standards. Assist in training, testing, and approval of weld operators.
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

 
  • Bachelors degree in welding or metallurgical or materials science engineering is required
  • 5+ years of experience in either production or engineering environment
  • Knowledge of all applicable codes and standards specifically ASME Section I and Section IX
  • Ability to multi-task on project assignments, manage daily tasks, and prioritize work to complete within deadlines
  • Strong team player and able to coordinate with cross functional teams: Engineering, Production, Lab technicians, Customer Service, Marketing, and Sales
  • Ability to drive changes as required
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment for customer support
