Summary
Barr is seeking a Civil Technician to join its Hibbing, Minnesota team to undertake challenging and progressive work on projects involving data collection, planning, and problem solving in the civil engineering field. The person selected for this position will work on multi-discipline project teams, providing computer-aided drafting expertise using AutoCAD on a Windows platform with an emphasis on Civil 3D. Typical duties consist of working with engineers to create, update, and revise drawings of civil, structural, or other systems.
Project responsibilities include developing and managing project CAD file structure, basefiles, planimetrics, design surfaces and pipe drafting networks, and construction drawing and renderings as well as determining quantities for cost estimating and report preparation. Additional responsibilities may include construction observation, surveying, and monitoring.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two-year technical certificate or experience/coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Strong technical and problem solving skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative
  • Proficiency using current versions of AutoCAD/Civil 3D
  • Proficiency using surveying equipment
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs (up to 10-20% travel expected)
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with civil engineering project design, layout, and production drafting workflow
  • Familiarity with work in an industrial environment and basic knowledge of various industrial disciplines and industrial construction

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
