Pharmacy Director

SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for leadership, direction, vision, and implementation of progressive pharmacy services at Medical Centers in Midland, Gratiot, Mt. Pleasant, Clare, Gladwin, West Branch and Alpena, and any future locations. This position supervises all pharmacy employees, supervisors, managers. The Director performs long range planning for the departments including all financial, human resources, accreditation, compliance, clinical activities as well as capital and operational budgets. Significant travel among the medical centers and stand alone pharmacies is required.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
20%*  Provides leadership and direction to the departments in accordance with state and federal laws, accreditation standards and the Health System mission, vision and values.
10%* Prepares annual budgets, inventory control, purchasing, 340b program oversight, contracting, variance reporting, and formulary management.
10%* Responsible for annual performance reviews for all pharmacy employees, recruitment and retention. Responsible for pharmacy employee and leader training, development and engagement.
10%* Develops quality clinical pharmacy services including; pharmacokinetics, anticoagulation management, parenteral nutrition, antibiotic stewardship, drug information, ambulatory pharmacy, teaching of interns/clerkship/pharmacy residents, med reconciliation, discharge prescriptions, etc.
10%* Develops annual goals and objectives and plans for the provision of pharmacy services for the next 3-5 years.
10%* Maintains involvement in pharmacy, nursing, medical staff and administrative hospital committees; P&T, Medical Center Operations, Supply Chain, Medical Staff and Medical Executive Committees, Opioid Safety, Med Safety, etc.
10%*  Maintains a positive and professional image of pharmacy services and the medical centers by interactions with various customer groups; physicians, nursing, other healthcare workers, patients and family.
10%* Participates in implementation and ongoing support/enhancement of the electronic medical record. Develops business intelligence/analytics capabilities to optimize pharmacy services.
10%* Expands pharmacy services as appropriate; e. g. specialty, discharge prescription and counseling, ambulatory, etc.
 
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Knowledge of pharmacology as normally acquired through completion of a 6 year Pharm D culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan required.
* Masters degree in business or health admnistration strongly preferred.
* Pharmacist license in the State of Michigan required.
* Controlled Substance in the State of Michigan required.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
Minimum three years experience working as a staff/clinical pharmacist in a medical center or similar setting required.
 
Five years management experience required.
 
Leadership skills needed to effectively direct a group.
 
Organizational/planning and negotiating skills needed to maintain a department.
 
Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Completion of ASHP accredited residency program preferred.
 
Masters degree in business or health administration strongly preferred.
