Project Engineer

Project Engineer

We're hiring a Project Engineer to support commercial projects from preconstruction through closeout. Working closely with the project manager and superintendent, you'll own assigned coordination and documentation tasks, identify issues early, and follow them through to resolution. You'll connect design information with field needs so the team has current drawings, timely answers, and materials when needed. This role offers hands-on experience in estimating, procurement, project controls, and construction delivery on distinctive North Bay projects.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a project engineer, you'll take responsibility for assigned work under the direction of the project manager and in coordination with the superintendent, including:

  • Reviewing drawings and specifications with the project manager and superintendent; identifying scope gaps, coordination conflicts, and missing information before they affect the work
  • Supporting estimating with quantity takeoffs, subcontractor bid solicitation, material pricing, and organized bid comparisons that identify exclusions and scope gaps
  • Communicating clearly with design partners, subcontractors, vendors, and the field team; documenting decisions and routing owner commitments through the project manager
  • Maintaining current drawings, specifications, revisions, and project records in Procore; distributing updated information promptly and helping the field team identify superseded documents
  • Preparing and distributing bid requests, plans, specifications, and addenda; tracking bidder questions, coverage, and due dates
  • Drafting clear scopes of work for subcontractors and vendors, including inclusions, exclusions, and scope interfaces, for project manager review
  • Coordinating subcontractor site walks and documenting existing conditions, questions, and clarifications needed for complete pricing
  • Reviewing and leveling subcontractor proposals; identifying qualifications and missing scope; supporting negotiations led by the project manager
  • Preparing subcontract and purchase order packages for project manager review and authorized signature; tracking required insurance, supporting documents, and execution status
  • Drafting clear RFIs with drawing references and field input; coordinating review with the project manager and superintendent, tracking responses against needed-by dates, and distributing answers to affected trades
  • Maintaining the submittal register; reviewing packages for completeness and coordination before routing for required review; tracking approvals, resubmittals, and overdue items
  • Tracking long-lead procurement from required-on-site dates, including submittals, approvals, releases, fabrication, and delivery; flagging schedule risks to the project manager and superintendent
  • Maintaining change-event logs and assembling quantities, subcontractor pricing, and supporting records for project manager review; flagging potential cost or schedule impacts without independently authorizing changed work
  • Preparing meeting minutes and action logs with responsible parties and due dates; following up on open items and escalating overdue decisions before they delay work
  • Supporting schedule updates and look-ahead planning with the superintendent; tracking design decisions, deliveries, inspections, and other constraints that affect upcoming work
  • Maintaining the punch list with the architect, superintendent, and subcontractors; assigning responsible parties, tracking due dates, and verifying completion with the project team
  • Receiving, reviewing, and coding subcontractor payment applications with the project manager; checking supporting documentation and flagging discrepancies for resolution
  • Supporting owner billings and payment follow-up with the project manager and accounting; tracking missing documents and unresolved items that may delay payment
  • Collecting closeout documents throughout construction, including warranties, operations and maintenance manuals, record drawings, and training records; tracking outstanding items through turnover
  • Supporting the superintendent's quality-control efforts through field observations, photos, and issue logs; tracking corrective work and coordinating required inspections
  • Following company and site safety requirements, promptly reporting unsafe conditions, and supporting the superintendent's safety documentation and corrective-action follow-up
  • The primary work location will be determined based on project assignments and may be at a project site, our Santa Rosa office, or our Napa office. Travel between offices and project sites may be required. Mileage and travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy.

Success in this role means current project information, timely RFIs and submittals, visible procurement risks, and assigned tasks closed out without repeated reminders.
