Robotics and Tech Support Engineer

About Productive Robotics

Productive Robotics designs and builds OB7 collaborative robots that manufacturers can put to work without writing code. Our customers are machine shops, fabricators, and manufacturers who need automation that's fast to deploy and easy to run. We're a lean team where engineers work directly with customers and see the impact of their work on the shop floor.

The Role

You'll be the technical link between our robots and our customers. You'll scope and prove out cobot applications such as machine tending, welding, and pick-and-place. You'll support customers through installation, training, and troubleshooting, and you'll bring what you learn in the field back to engineering and product. This role suits someone who is equally comfortable on a CNC shop floor, on a support call, and in a demo with a prospective buyer.

What You'll Do

  • Evaluate customer applications, assess feasibility, and recommend cell layouts, end effectors, and peripherals
  • Build and run proofs of concept and customer demos, in our lab and on-site
  • Install, commission, and train customers on OB7 systems at their facilities
  • Provide technical support by phone, email, and remote session; diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and integration issues
  • Track and document support cases, root causes, and fixes; build out knowledge-base articles and application notes
  • Support sales with technical expertise during the buying process, including ROI and cycle-time estimates
  • Feed field insights to engineering to improve product reliability and usability
  • Support trade shows and customer events as needed

What You Bring

Required

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with collaborative robot applications: Any brands of cobots.
  • Demonstrated customer support experience, including troubleshooting under pressure and explaining technical issues clearly to non-engineers
  • Working knowledge of industrial automation: I/O, grippers, sensors, safety concepts, and basic PLC/machine integration
  • Comfort with mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 30% of the time
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel by air

Preferred

  • Experience with CNC machine tending and/or robotic welding
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing engineering, mechatronics, or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, EtherNet/IP)
  • Knowledge of robot safety standards (ISO 10218, ISO/TS 15066)
  • Background in a machine shop, fab shop, or system integrator

Location & Travel

We prefer this role be based full-time at our Carpinteria, CA headquarters, where you'll have direct access to our engineering team and demo lab. Remote candidates with strong qualifications will be considered. Expect regular travel to customer sites for installations, training, and support.

What We Offer

  • Salary: [$80,000 - $100,000], depending on experience
  • [Health, dental, and vision insurance]
  • [401(k)]
  • [Paid time off]
  • The chance to shape a growing product and work directly with the people building it
