Engineering Co-op/Intern - New Product Development Summer 2027
Position Summary
The Engineering Co-op/Intern will support the New Product Development (NPD) Engineering team in the development, evaluation, and implementation of manufacturing processes for components and assemblies serving minimally invasive surgeries, robotic assisted surgeries, orthopedic instrumentation and implants, and cardiovascular procedures. This position offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and provides exposure to process development, data analysis, technical documentation, and continuous improvement activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, technicians, and production personnel to support projects ranging from prototype builds through production readiness/stabilization.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist in collecting, measuring and analyzing product and process data.
- Support engineering studies to evaluate manufacturing performance and process capability.
- Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, quality, and capability of manufacturing processes.
- Assist in developing and updating manufacturing work instructions and related technical documentation.
- Support process validation, qualification, and continuous improvement activities as assigned.
- Work with engineers to complete assigned project tasks related to part processing, including but not limited to:
- Performing inspections and measurements
- Tumbling and finishing operations
- Running specialized manufacturing equipment
- Loading and unloading CNC machines
- Manual fixture assembly
- Cleaning and preparing parts for processing or evaluation
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, biomedical, industrial, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in manufacturing processes.
- Ability to analyze data and solve technical problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship, co-op, machine shop, or manufacturing experience.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and data visualization tools.
- Understanding of CNC machining, manufacturing processes, or lean manufacturing principles.
- Experience working in a regulated industry such as medical devices, aerospace, or automotive.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk in a manufacturing environment for extended periods of time.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to safely work around manufacturing equipment while following all safety procedures.
- Ability to use a mouse and keyboard.
