Job Description
Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a Civil Engineer for the Field Engineering team to interface with system and infrastructure engineering and subcontractors executing projects at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho. Projects in the construction portfolio range from short duration (<1yr) to multi-year, multi-million-dollar projects, to replacement-in-kind or renovation of aging infrastructure and systems.
The Civil Engineer provides technical knowledge for the development and execution of construction projects without compromising safety, reliability, quality, schedule, and cost, as part of a multi-disciplinary project team.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Prepares or coordinates the preparation of design documents (drawing and technical specifications, cost estimates, testing and/or commissioning of new infrastructure, facilities, and equipment).
- Works closely with Project Manager, General Contractor, and sub-tiers to ensure project is constructed in accordance with contract documents and the applicable code(s) of record.
- Provides field support and inspections, to include monitoring progress and performance against project plans with the project team and taking action to resolve technical problems to minimize delays.
- Prepares engineering standards, design and contract specifications, and support the development of project schedules and budget forecasting.
- Reviews and approves technical submittals.
- Establishes and oversees architectural / engineering field follow.
- Develops and maintains healthy relationships with stakeholders, engineering, management, customers, and peers to ensure the progression and success of projects and the facility.
- Candidate will be required to obtain and maintain local qualifications including Engineer of Environmental Work, Excavation Permit Requestor, other quals as required.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Preferred Skills
- Experience in the development of technical documents such as specifications, work scopes, alternative options, or contract documents
- Experience in any of the civil engineering disciplines such as geotechnical, structural, water resources, or transportation
- Experience with planning and executing projects
- Experience with software tools, i.e. Autocad, Blue Beam, MS Office
- Knowledgeable of 29 CFR 1926 OSHA Construction Industry Regulations and Standards
- Knowledgeable of Building Codes and Standards

Pay Range
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
