We are currently looking for an Current Model Paint Engineering Intern to join our team in Smyrna, TN. Our team is responsible for delivering a beautiful, durable paint finish on every vehicle produced at the Smyrna Assembly Plant. We work closely with robotics systems, paint suppliers, equipment contractors, and plant production and maintenance teams to achieve our quality, cost, and throughput objectives. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of automotive manufacturing through new automation, advanced processes, and innovative material technologies.
A Day in the Life:
Gain hands-on experience with paint shop automation systems and advanced manufacturing technologies.
Support the launch and implementation of a new sealer robot cell and high-transfer-efficiency paint applicators during the summer shutdown period.
Assist with quality validation and uptime performance assessments for newly installed equipment.
Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, production, and supplier teams to support project execution.
Identify opportunities to improve paint shop cost, quality, efficiency, and throughput performance.
Who We’re Looking for:
Required:
Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
Students entering their Junior or Senior year at the start of the upcoming academic term.
Strong aptitude for learning mechanical, fluid, and manufacturing processes.
Ability to analyze problems, remain calm under pressure, and make sound decisions in fast-paced environments.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills with a willingness to support critical project objectives.
Interest in automation, robotics, manufacturing, and vehicle quality systems.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
GPA of 3.0 or above (Candidates will be required to provide an official or unofficial transcript during the application process for verification.)
Ability to perform work onsite at Smyrna, TN.
