Checkpoint Surgical is a privately held medical device company based in Cleveland, Ohio. The company works with surgeons to advance the science and practice of peripheral nerve care through research, education, and innovative product development. Checkpoint Surgical’s state-of-the-art nerve care products have become the standard of care for peripheral nerve surgery. The company actively develops and brings to market new products to support the entire continuum of intraoperative nerve care.
Job Purpose:
The Engineering Co-op will support ongoing research, product development, and manufacturing initiatives. This role provides exposure to medical device design, testing, process improvement, and regulatory requirements. The co-op will work closely with engineers and cross-functional teams to solve real-world challenges and gain practical experience in the medical device industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interface and work closely with Engineering and Operations teams, as well as outside vendors and equipment manufacturers;
- Undertakes and successfully completes simple or basic project/product tasks including: writing and/or verifying specifications, maintaining product/process documentation, testing of processes, equipment, raw materials and product, and qualifying equipment and processes
- Assist in design and development of new products, processes, and test methods
- Designs, procures, and fabricates simple tooling and fixtures
- Designs and coordinates engineering tests and experiments
- Contribute and adhere to process development and documentation practices, such as work instructions and lab protocols
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as requested;
Quality system duties and responsibilities:
- Ensure quality is built into all aspects of work by maintaining compliance with all quality requirements and company procedures
Qualifications:
- Candidates must be currently enrolled in good academic standing at an accredited undergraduate or graduate engineering program with a GPA of 3.0 or greater
- Current Junior or Senior classification in Bachelor’s program or Master’s standing
- Strong electrical / mechanical, analytical, problem solving and communication skills
- Candidate must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the 6-month Co-op session.
- Electrical and/or mechanical CAD skills preferred
- Comfortable working in a regulated environment with attention to detail
- Interest in the medical device industry and passion for improving patient care
Pay range:
$21/hr. - $25/hr.
