Systems Engineer Intern

Job Description

The department researches, develops, and applies engineering approaches in the following Systems Engineering Areas:

Mission Engineering

Requirements Engineering

Systems-of-Systems Engineering

Enterprise Systems Engineering

The department helps sponsors understand mission needs, translate them into clear and traceable requirements, and design solutions that connect people, processes, technologies, and systems. The department evaluates alternatives, interfaces, dependencies, performance, and risk to support informed design, integration, and investment decisions that improve mission outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

Support Mission Engineering activities, such as, mission-thread development, operational scenario modeling and trade studies

Assist in requirements engineering to elicit, analyze document and maintain needed stakeholder requirements.

Apply or gain experience in Systems of Systems Engineering to contribute to the architecture, integration, interface definition and interoperability analysis of independent systems

Apply or gain experience in Enterprise systems engineering to support enterprise architecture, capability planning, portfolio analysis and roadmap development to align mission objectives, organizational processes, technology, data and investments.

Basic Qualifications

Must be a student enrolled full-time in an accredited degree-seeking program in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a related degree and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.

Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering or related systems modeling and architecture concepts

Familiarity with Requirements Engineering or an understanding of how needs can be verified, traced and made actionable

Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.

U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain the required U.S. government security clearance

This position has an on-site requirement of 4 days a week minimum

Preferred Qualifications

Academic, project, or internship experience with systems engineering, analysis, modeling and simulation, software development, or a related technical area.

Coursework or project experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Digital Engineering, mission engineering, or systems architecture.

Experience using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data analysis, modeling, simulation, or automation.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$46,500 - $58,000 - $69,500 Annual
