Junior Mechanical Engineer 

• Location: Madison, WI – Onsite 
• Contract Role: 6+ month duration with potential for extensions 

Position Summary:

Automated Systems, Inc. (ASI) is seeking a driven Junior Mechanical Engineer that will support the Mechanical Engineering Team with the design, development, documentation, and delivery of hardware and instrumentation projects. In this role, you will help with development of medical device automation from concept, through design and integration/verification. As the Junior Mechanical Engineer contractor, you will work on mechanisms, actuators, guarding, structures, and support continuing engineering activities. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and analyze mechanical parts, support mechanical engineering activities for development projects to ensure technical execution aligns with product, quality, and business objectives.

• Work on complex product assemblies in Solidworks, project plans, priorities, and resource coordination to support timely delivery of design, development, documentation, and implementation work.

• Provide technical oversight for mechanical engineering designs, design reviews, and resolution of complex hardware or instrumentation issues. 

• Take products through engineering analysis and design validation testing phases using skills of both the internal team and outside resources.

• Work closely with electrical engineers to develop tightly-integrated, compact electromechanical solutions.

• Ensure engineering work complies with applicable quality, regulatory, and documentation requirements within a regulated environment.

• Drive continuous improvement in engineering methods, design practices, and team effectiveness to support innovation, efficiency, and reliable execution.

• Source and collaborate with other engineering leads and parts vendors. 

• Cooperate with the design transfer and manufacturing organization and outside vendors in creating fixtures for manufacturing and testing.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field as outlined in the essential duties. 

• 1+ years of relevant engineering experience, including internship experience in Mechanical drawings and design controls and mechanical/hardware engineering within a biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device, or other regulated environment.

• Must have solid knowledge with Solidworks and 3D CAD designs.

• Strong communication skills, (written and verbal) with project managers and leaders at all levels of our business. 

• Hands-on experience with CAE tools with regards to stress strain and impact.

• Relevant experience with design and requirements of medical devices. 

• Demonstrated experience with design of machine automation.

• Experience working engineering projects or teams, with knowledge of mechanical design tools, product development processes, and cross-functional development in a regulated setting.
