As an Intern Data Specialist, you will work alongside experienced IBM professionals to help organizations transform data into actionable insights, automate business processes, and unlock the power of artificial intelligence through enterprise technology solutions.
This internship provides meaningful, hands-on experience with modern data platforms, cloud technologies, analytics, automation, and AI. You will contribute to real client projects while developing the technical, analytical, consulting, and professional skills needed to prepare for a potential future career with IBM Consulting.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with collecting, organizing, transforming, and analyzing data from multiple sources.
- Support the development and modernization of data platforms, databases, and scalable data pipelines.
- Contribute to data engineering, analytics, business intelligence, automation, and AI initiatives.
- Use programming languages and technologies such as Python, SQL, Java, or similar tools.
- Help identify data-quality issues and recommend practical improvements.
- Support the creation of reports, dashboards, analytical models, and data-driven business insights.
- Collaborate with technical and consulting teams to solve client challenges across different industries.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to colleagues and project stakeholders.
- Participate in technical training, mentorship, and professional-development activities.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Foundational knowledge of programming languages such as Python, SQL, Java, or similar technologies.
- Exposure to data engineering, analytics, business intelligence, artificial intelligence, databases, or cloud-based data projects through coursework, labs, internships, research, or personal projects.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to new technologies, and work effectively in a team environment.
- Available to work full-time for the complete 12-week internship from May 3 through July 23, 2027.
- Currently located in, or willing to relocate to, Lansing or elsewhere in Michigan for the duration of the internship.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States for the full duration of the internship.
This internship does not provide immigration or visa sponsorship. Candidates with valid CPT or OPT authorization may be considered if their authorization covers the full internship period.
