Location: Lansing, Michigan
Internship dates: May–July 2027 | Approximately 10 weeks
Launch your cybersecurity career with IBM Consulting at the Lansing FutureNow Center. As an Intern Cybersecurity Specialist, you will work alongside experienced IBM professionals to help clients protect critical systems, data, and business operations from evolving security threats.
This internship provides meaningful, hands-on experience through real client work, technical learning, mentorship, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. You will also develop the communication, consulting, and professional skills needed to prepare for a potential future career in cybersecurity.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with analyzing cybersecurity requirements and documenting security processes.
- Support cybersecurity assessments, risk analysis, and security control evaluations.
- Help identify vulnerabilities and recommend practical security improvements.
- Contribute to work involving identity and access management, cloud security, data protection, threat management, governance, and compliance.
- Research emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, and industry practices.
- Collaborate with technical and consulting teams to address client challenges.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to colleagues and project stakeholders.
- Participate in technical training, mentorship, and professional-development activities.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- Foundational understanding of cybersecurity concepts, risks, controls, and security best practices.
- Demonstrated cybersecurity, technical, or analytical skills through coursework, labs, projects, research, internships, or cyber competitions.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to new technologies, and work effectively in a team environment.
- Available to work full-time for the approximately 10-week internship period from May through July 2027.
- Currently located in, or willing to relocate to, Lansing or elsewhere in Michigan based on business needs.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States for the full duration of the internship.
