Renewables Engineering Co-op

Position Overview

The Renewables Engineering Co-op provides students with hands-on experience supporting a dynamic ethanol production facility. Working alongside engineering, operations, and maintenance teams, co-ops will apply engineering principles to real-world challenges, troubleshoot process issues, analyze operational data, and contribute to projects that improve safety, reliability, and plant performance. This role offers increasing responsibility throughout the co-op experience and exposure to both day-to-day operations and larger capital improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support process engineering initiatives by troubleshooting operational challenges, analyzing data, and researching practical solutions to improve plant performance
  • Collaborate with production operators, engineers, and maintenance personnel to identify process improvement opportunities and implement operational enhancement
  • Assist with capital projects by supporting project planning, data collection, equipment evaluations, contractor coordination, and project execution activities
  • Review and update process documentation, including P&IDs, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and engineering records to ensure accuracy and alignment with current operations
  • Conduct field observations, gather process data, and evaluate equipment and system performance to support engineering recommendations
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on safety, efficiency, reliability, and operational excellence
  • Communicate engineering findings, project updates, and recommended solutions to cross-functional teams
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and responsibilities, demonstrating increasing independence and technical capability throughout the co-op experience.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Agriculture Systems, and/or Process Engineering
  • Junior standing with minimum 3.0 GPA required
  • Strong communication, problem solving, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • 0-2 years’ relevant experience required
