Purpose & Scope of the Role
Join Tetra Tech’s Sustainable Building Design team and help inform the design and construction of environmentally conscious buildings and masterplans. You’ll work with architects, engineers, clients and wider stakeholders on energy assessments, embodied carbon studies, circular economy strategies and sustainability frameworks including BREEAM, WELL and DREAM. This is a graduate role with exposure to ground-breaking projects, structured development, mentoring, Chartership support and early careers networking.

Your Impact in this position
You’ll support clients to achieve their sustainability goals by contributing to energy modelling, life cycle assessment, material and technology research, renewable energy opportunities and sustainability reporting. Your input will help improve building performance, reduce carbon and strengthen design decisions from concept through delivery.

5 Core Capabilities

  • Sustainable Design Integration – Work collaboratively to embed sustainable principles into project designs and support environmentally responsive outcomes.
  • Energy and Carbon Analysis – Use energy modelling and life cycle assessment to improve energy performance and reduce embodied carbon.
  • Certification Support – Assist assessors with BREEAM, WELL and DREAM certification work.
  • Innovation and Resource Efficiency – Identify low-carbon materials, renewable energy opportunities and circular economy strategies.
  • Reporting and Stakeholder Communication – Prepare reports, planning submissions and presentations, while advising clients and multidisciplinary teams clearly and professionally.

Training, Qualifications and Experience
A minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in architecture, architectural engineering, building services, renewable energy, sustainable design or a related discipline (MEng or MSc) is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential; AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Cloud and energy modelling tools such as IES, Tas, EnergyPlus or DesignBuilder are desirable. Strong communication, teamwork, sustainability awareness and suitability for security clearance are required.

Working Environment
Based in Manchester, Leeds or Edinburgh, with collaboration across teams and offices as needed. This role supports hybrid working, with expected time in the office and flexibility where project demands allow.
