Estimator (pumping, hydraulic, dewatering, groundwater, geology)

ESTIMATOR

The Estimator provides technical estimating, application, pricing, and proposal support for pumping and dewatering projects, equipment rentals, and equipment sales.

The Estimator partners with Sales, Engineering, Operations, and branch teams to evaluate customer needs, qualify opportunities, define scope, and develop accurate estimates and proposals through project award and handoff. The role serves as the bridge between Sales and Engineering, developing standard solutions for Small/Branch-capable applications and determining when Engineering support is required. For Large/Complex projects, Engineering owns the technical design and system configuration, while the Estimator uses the approved solution to develop costs, pricing, scope, exclusions, and the customer-facing proposal.

RESPONIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a point of contact for inbound customer calls and requests; gather and qualify initial project information, ensure opportunities are properly tracked, and coordinate with the appropriate Sales, branch, or technical resources.
  • Manage assigned opportunities from qualification through quotation, coordinating required resources and ensuring estimates and proposals are completed by required deadlines.
  • Collect, organize, and review drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, bid documents, and other project information necessary to understand requirements and develop the scope.
  • Attend pre-bid/pre-construction meetings, site visits, and project discussions as needed to identify site conditions, constraints, risks, and customer requirements.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and develop preliminary scopes, equipment requirements, labor assumptions, and other estimating inputs for pumping, dewatering, rental, and equipment sales opportunities.
  • Develop standard pumping and dewatering solutions within established Estimator capabilities and identify opportunities requiring Engineering involvement. Coordinate with Engineering on Large/Complex applications and incorporate the approved technical design into the estimate.
  • Provide technical application and Global Pump product support to Sales, customers, and internal teams throughout the estimating and quotation process.
  • Develop complete project costs and pricing, including equipment, labor, materials, transportation, vendor/subcontractor requirements, and other applicable costs; solicit and evaluate outside quotations as required.
  • Evaluate bid risks, contractual requirements, scope gaps, assumptions, and exclusions, and review the overall estimate for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with the proposed technical solution prior to release.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and technically appropriate customer quotations, proposals, RFQ/RFP responses, and supporting bid documentation.
  • Maintain project references, experience records, and other information required to support bids, prequalifications, and customer submissions.
  • Support project handoff following award, ensuring key scope, pricing, technical, assumption, and exclusion information is effectively communicated to the appropriate execution teams.
  • Provide estimating and technical support during project execution as needed for scope clarification, differing site conditions, change orders, and other issues affecting the original estimate or scope.
  • Review estimated versus actual project costs and participate in post-project evaluations to improve estimating accuracy, assumptions, tools, and processes.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of estimating tools, pricing resources, and technical quotation standards, and assist in training and mentoring branch and Inside Sales personnel in applicable specialties.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong technical aptitude, curiosity, and ability to learn pumping, dewatering, hydraulics, and equipment applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, and other technical information and perform mathematical and technical calculations associated with estimating and equipment applications.
  • Understanding of estimating principles, including quantity take-offs and development of labor, equipment, material, and vendor/subcontractor costs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple opportunities, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across Sales, Engineering, Operations, branch teams, customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Customer- and results-focused with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for quality, accuracy, and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Ability to visit job sites, attend pre-bid/pre-construction meetings, and travel as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree (or above) in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in estimating, construction, engineering, equipment rental, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with pumping, dewatering, temporary pumping systems, construction equipment, or equipment rental.
  • Experience with conceptual and/or self-perform estimating in a construction or specialty contracting environment.
  • Field or construction experience.
  • Experience with estimating, ERP/CRM, or similar business software, with demonstrated ability to learn new systems.
