Materials Laboratory Manager

CTL|Thompson, Inc. is seeking a Materials Laboratory Manager for full-time employment with our Materials Laboratory in Denver, CO. The Materials Laboratory Manager will perform laboratory observations, tests, and oversight. Communicates with the engineering staff and other applicable field personnel. Maintain and clean equipment and work areas as needed, oversee equipment calibration, inventory and purchasing approvals. Responsibilities may include assisting field and engineering staff in other assignments. Comply with company policies and safety standards.

Materials Laboratory Managers are paid an annual salary between $85,000.00 and $100,000.00 plus discretionary bonuses. Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Interview, train, and oversee Engineering (Lab) Technicians I, II and III.
  • Oversee scheduling and daily workflow and coordinate with Project Managers.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Provide performance evaluations. 
  • Approve or decline timecards and time off requests.
     

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform various laboratory tests per specified standards.
  • Manage workflow of laboratory testing in computer programs (SpectraQest).
  • Review laboratory test results and outputs (SpectraQest).
  • Lead and maintain laboratory accreditation processes (AMRL/CCRL and other applicable agencies) under the direction of the Technical Director.
  • Manage proficiency testing programs (AMRL/CCRL) and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain laboratory quality systems and documentation. 
  • Resolves conflicts among owners, contractors, and other parties within scope of authority. 
  • Prepare invoices for laboratory services as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Good understanding of laboratory tests performed by CTL|T.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in CTL|T’s software.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Either additional pre-engineering related coursework or vocational school; OR equivalent knowledge gained through experience.
  • At least three years of experience required including supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of five years of field and laboratory testing methods, techniques, and results interpretation.

Certifications:

  • ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Grade I or ability to obtain it within 6 months.
  • ACI Masonry Testing Technician or ability to obtain it within 6 months.
  • ACI Field Testing Technician – Grade I or ability to obtain it within 6 months.

Work Environment:

This job operates inside, in a geotechnical laboratory environment. Routinely uses PPE and other safety equipment.

Physical/General Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 65 pounds at times.
  • Evening and weekend work possible.

  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record in accordance with the company automobile insurance policy guidelines.
