R&D Engineer – Automotive Welding Equipment

Obara Corp USA is a leading supplier of advanced welding equipment and engineered solutions for the automotive industry. We are seeking a motivated and innovative R&D Engineer to help develop the next generation of welding systems, automation technologies, and manufacturing solutions for our customers.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a background in welding, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering who enjoys hands-on problem solving, product development, and working directly with manufacturing technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and develop new welding equipment, tooling, and automation solutions for automotive manufacturing applications.
  • Lead product development projects from concept through testing, validation, and commercialization.
  • Design and evaluate mechanical, electrical, and welding systems to improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Develop and test prototypes, conduct experiments, and analyze results to drive continuous innovation.
  • Collaborate with customers, manufacturing, and cross-functional engineering teams to identify and solve technical challenges.
  • Support equipment commissioning, troubleshooting, and process optimization efforts.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, specifications, test reports, and technical drawings.
  • Stay current with advancements in welding technologies, robotics, controls, and automotive manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1~5 years of engineering experience in manufacturing, welding equipment, automation, or automotive industries preferred.
  • Knowledge of resistance welding, automated assembly systems, or industrial machinery is highly desirable.
  • Experience with CAD software and engineering design principles.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, robotics, sensors, controls, and industrial electrical systems is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Automotive manufacturing or Tier 1 supplier experience.
  • Robotic welding cells and automation systems.
  • Product development and prototype testing.
  • Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience with welding equipment and industrial machinery.
