Senior Electrical Engineer
Senior Electrical Engineer (3918)
Position Summary:
Lead the electrical development of systems supporting Mevion’s S250 proton therapy platform, where high-reliability engineering directly contributes to cancer-treatment delivery. You will own challenging high-voltage and power-electronics subsystems from architecture through verification, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and mentoring developing engineers.
Essential Functions:
- Leads the design and development of electrical subsystems including power electronics, control circuitry, and high-voltage systems.
- Performs circuit analysis, schematic design, and PCB layout review for complex electrical assemblies.
- Develops and executes electrical system test plans, failure analysis, and design verification protocols.
- Authors and maintains electrical design documentation including schematics, BOMs, and engineering change orders.
- Provides technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers on electrical design methodology and standards.
- Collaborates with mechanical, software, and physics engineering teams to ensure electrical subsystem integration.
- Troubleshoots and resolves electrical issues during manufacturing, commissioning, and field operation.
- Ensures electrical designs comply with applicable safety standards including IEC 60601 and relevant EMC requirements.
- Willingness and ability to travel (5-10%) domestically and internationally as business needs require.
Required Education, Training, and Experience:
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering required with 5+ years' experience, and hands-on product-development experience for a complex product. Expertise in either high-voltage power electronics, AC/DC power systems or precision analog design.
- Proven experience in performing all design and development stages including schematic capture, layout, design, verification and documentation.
- Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD) and circuit simulation software
- Self-sufficiency in planning and driving projects to conclusion, as well as meeting performance and cost objectives in a timely fashion with a high level of innovation, quality and efficiency.
- The ability to easily transition from one project to the next with little direct supervision.
Preferred/Transferable Backgrounds:
- Experience in the design and manufacture of Medical Capital Equipment systems or another regulated product development environment (aerospace, defense)
- EC 60601, EMC, medical-device, aerospace, defense, industrial equipment, or other regulated-product experience.
- RF experience.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage modern AI tools in innovative ways to improve engineering effectiveness, solve technical challenges, or create business value
Physical and Environmental Considerations:
- Regular standing and walking in lab or engineering areas.
- Typical office environment.
- Frequent use of hands to handle tools, instruments, and small parts.
- Occasional lifting or moving of equipment and materials up to 35 lbs (16 kg).
- Occasional bending, stooping, or reaching to access work surfaces and equipment.
- Combination of office and lab/engineering environments.
- Work around equipment, tools, and test setups with moderate noise.
- Use of appropriate PPE (e.g., safety glasses, lab coats, gloves) as required by task and safety procedures.
- May need to work in the vicinity of high magnetic fields.
