2026 Fall Civil Engineering Intern

This position involves intern-level civil engineering work for local government. The intern will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of street improvement and utility projects. The intern will work with the Engineering Department.

Number of hours is flexible. We will consider some remote work but would want an intern to be at the Hamilton Engineering office at least three days a week.

 

 Essential Job Functions:

  • Contribute to plan preparation of street improvements, stormwater, gas, water and sanitary sewer projects under direction of experienced engineering staff
  • Compete field assignments including data collection, inspection and surveying.
  • Provide technical assistance to engineering staff and participate in meetings with engineers and other city staff.

 

 Skills/Knowledges/Abilities:

  • Willingness to learn, accept instructions and directions and follow through to meet deadlines
  • Must be courteous and able to communicate well with City engineering staff, property owners, contractors and the general public
  • Strong self-initiative and sense of urgency to meet deadlines
  • Must adhere to established hour of work and guidelines for attendance, reporting of absences or other office routines

 

 Training/Education/Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Actively pursuing a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Transportation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering or closely related field
  • The ability to work for 8-40 hours a week for at least 6 weeks.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license is preferred.
