Design Specialist - Contract Engineer

Contract Engineer – Design Specialists will process engineering bills of materials and drawings to provide a clear-to-build production release for a large commercial air handling product.  Additional responsibilities include performing some engineering support activities that may require some hands-on construction and testing for the development of new or modified components or products.

 

How you will do it

  • Work independently with minimal direction, develop approaches to solutions and lead in process improvement
  • Support application and sales teams by providing guidance and executing special requests
  • Prepare drawings of parts and assemblies involving selection of scales, dimensioning, detailed views, sectional views orthographic projects from sketches, layouts or verbal instructions, e.g., sheet metal housings
  • Proficient at using 3D Solids/Parametric software in drawing, modeling and design tasks as well as producing sheet metal designs and drawings using CAD software
  • Utilize Excel for macro language programs to improve CAD (Inventor) productivity by reducing or eliminating interactive commands to create repetitious geometry or drawings
  • Prepare bills of material and prelists using computerized bill of material system
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of codes or standards for design applications and conformance as related to job
  • Review project specifications and requirements to assure conformance of design and fabrication of product
  • Provide technical support to and communication among the Engineering and Production teams to assist in efficient execution of building air handling units, guide factory assemblers as necessary to complete and coordinate activities
  • Provide and exchange technical information to vendors, customers, and inspectors for assigned products and components
  • Train less experienced drafters in areas of technical and practice knowledge and check work of others that is similar in type and complexity to that which is personally performed
  • Review and mark drawings to support ongoing continuous improvement initiatives for products and processes
  • Follow codes and procedures related to job
  • Adhere to the Company’s Code of Conduct and Business Ethics standards

 

Travel Requirements
Occasional travel for training, to support other JCI facilities, to visit job sites, or to support the field, is required, up to 10%

Required:

  • Associate’s degree in engineering (ME, MET, or EMET preferred)
  • Willingness to work in the office daily, located in York, PA
  • 3D modeling experience and ability to produce models and drawings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint), as well as Internet software
  • Possess strong verbal and written technical communication skill to interact within role with engineers
  • A strong ability to multi-task is necessary and ability to follow instructions with or without agreement
  • Able to work in fast-paced, schedule driven work environment; possess the agility/adaptability to quickly move from one task to another when required while maintaining accuracy
  • Possess the willingness and ability to quickly learn new concepts/technologies on typically steep learning curves

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with Inventor or comparable 3D modeling software
  • Knowledge of HVAC fundamentals is beneficial
  • Experience in manufacturing
  • Sheet metal design experience
