Sales Engineer

Valco Melton is now seeking an entry-level Sales Engineer to join the Coating division of our Global Sales team. The Sales Engineer will be based at the company’s world headquarters in Cincinnati and will report to the Global Sales Manager (Coating Division) based in Spain.

The Sales Engineer will focus on driving new business growth for Valco Melton’s coating solutions by identifying, developing, and closing opportunities within targeted market / territory. This role combines technical expertise with solution‑based selling to expand Valco Melton’s overall market share in the Coating industry.

Regular travel, both domestic and international, will be required in this role. Although travel percentage may fluctuate, approximately 50% travel will be expected overall.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Identify, qualify, and develop new business opportunities within the coating market, with a primary focus on expanding Valco Melton’s market share in both existing and emerging coating applications.
  • Utilize technical expertise when engaging with prospects and customers to uncover unmet needs, define coating process requirements, and offer engineered solutions that deliver measurable performance and ROI.
  • Develop deep expertise in Valco Melton’s coating technologies, application methods, and system capabilities to support effective selling and competitive differentiation.
  • Apply engineering principles and coating expertise to analyze customer processes, materials, substrates, and performance objectives, translating this analysis into viable system recommendations.
  • Prepare and deliver customer‑facing technical presentations, application proposals, and business cases that clearly articulate coating performance advantages and total‑value benefits.
  • Provide high‑level technical support during installations, start‑ups, and initial production runs to ensure successful adoption of new coating solutions and long‑term customer satisfaction.
  • Continuously assess market trends, competitive activity, and customer feedback to identify new coating applications and product development opportunities.

Required Skills / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering.
  • Some prior work experience in an engineering- or sales- related role (internships and co-ops qualify).
  • Strong sales mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, influence technical buying decisions, and drive new business development.
  • Ability to evaluate complex processes and recommend engineered systems tailored to performance, quality, and production objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts into clear customer value propositions.
  • Solid project coordination and analytical skills, with comfort managing complex, multi-step sales projects.
  • Ability to maintain a passport and travel both domestically and internationally up to 50%.

Preferred Skills / Experience:

  • Professional-level proficiency in Spanish.
  • Demonstrated engineering or sales experience with adhesive dispensing or coating solutions.
  • Experience working independently in a field‑based or customer‑facing role, including regular regional and national travel.
