Postdoctoral Researcher-Nonlinear Optical Modulators

Postdoctoral Researcher – Nonlinear Optical Modulators and Photodetectors

The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is the premier research laboratory for the Navy. The Materials Science and Technology Division is at the forefront of advancing quantum technologies, focusing on cutting-edge research to advance optoelectronics and quantum technologies. We seek a postdoctoral researcher to explore nonlinear optical modulators and photodetectors.

The Post-Doc will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to drive innovation in quantum technologies. A successful applicant will lead projects in developing and testing of novel optical materials and devices, particularly nonlinear optical modulators and photodetectors. This will involve the creation of hybrid metamaterials with novel quantum properties. They will integrate low-dimensional materials and combine nanofabrication techniques to develop optical modulators with novel properties. Specific projects will include the development of single-photon emitters, nonlinear optical modulators and room-temperature infrared (IR) photodetectors.

Interested applicants should have:
• Ph.D. in physics, optics, or materials science.
• Strong experience in optical device development, materials synthesis, and characterization, particularly for quantum applications.
• Experience with nanofabrication techniques, including electron beam lithography, and familiarity with electrical and optoelectronic device characterization.
• Strong publication record and experience presenting research at conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.
• U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency required.

Location: On-site- Washington, DC, 20375.
