Location: Remote, with optional hybrid opportunities in Columbus, Ohio
Supervisor: Executive Director and/or Designee, QuSTEAM
Compensation: $4,500 Summer Internship Stipend
Position Overview:
QuSTEAM is seeking a highly motivated, academically strong, and detail-oriented doctoral student to serve as a Curriculum Development Intern for Summer 2026. This paid Internship provides advanced hands-on experience supporting the development, refinement, and advancement of QuSTEAM’s quantum education curriculum products.
The intern will collaborate closely with organizational leadership, faculty advisors, and subject matter contributors to strengthen instructional materials, learning experiences, and curriculum quality. This is an excellent opportunity for a doctoral student interested in quantum education, instructional design, STEM pedagogy, workforce development, and emerging technologies.
The intern will also benefit from mentoring, professional development support, and exposure to national efforts advancing Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) education.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assisting with development and refinement of curriculum modules, lesson content, and instructional materials
- Supporting the review and enhancement of slide decks, syllabi, assignments, rubrics, and assessments
- Helping align curriculum content with stated learning objectives and student outcomes
- Conducting literature reviews and background research related to quantum information science education and instructional trends
- Assisting with plain-language translation of complex technical concepts for student audiences
- Reviewing curriculum for accessibility, clarity, formatting consistency, and instructional flow
- Supporting faculty and reviewer feedback collection and synthesis
- Supporting preparation and organization of curriculum materials for internal review, pilot planning, and future release
- Participating in planning meetings and supporting priority summer curriculum projects
- Receiving and applying constructive feedback to improve work performance
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited doctoral program (PhD, EdD, or equivalent) in Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) or a closely related field
- Demonstrated academic preparation in quantum concepts, quantum technologies, or related technical subject matter
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to varied audiences
- Experience conducting research, synthesizing literature, or analyzing technical information
- Ability to review academic or instructional materials with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience working independently, meeting deadlines, and managing multiple priorities
- Professionalism, responsiveness, and collaborative work style
- Familiarity with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to receive and apply constructive feedback
Preferred Knowledge & Competencies:
- Experience with curriculum development, teaching, tutoring, or instructional design
- Interest in community college education, transfer pathways, or STEM workforce development
- Ability to translate technical content into student-friendly language
- Experience creating slide decks, assessments, rubrics, or course materials
- Awareness of equity, access, and student success considerations in STEM education
- Collaborative mindset and comfort working with faculty, staff, and external reviewers
Commitment:
- 15–20 hours per week
- Flexible work days with required weekday daytime availability
Compensation:
- Summer stipend of $4,500.00
- QuSTEAM is willing to complete documentation for internship, practicum, or experiential learning credit at the student’s home institution upon request.
- Reimbursement for mileage and parking for approved assignments/tasks.
