Quality Engineer

Title Quality Engineer

Location : Wickliffe, OH

Position Summary:                                                     

The Quality Engineer will be generally responsible for customer satisfaction, ensuring adherence to procedures, maintenance and improvement of the quality management system, improvement of inspection and testing techniques, and continuous improvement of quality metrics.  The Quality Engineer will utilize tools and concepts such as MSA, human factors, 8D’s, PFMEA’s, control plans, 6S, Lean Manufacturing and Six-Sigma to accomplish these goals.

Essential Functions:                                                   

  • Work with engineering and operations to identify root causes for internal and external non-conformances, escapes, or returns
  • Work with engineering to ensure proposed product/process changes are properly communicated to the customer and throughout the organization and properly implemented once approved.
  • Utilize problem solving tools to drive and lead improvements such as 8D’s and 4-Blockers
  • Perform regular product, process, and system audits to monitor ongoing product quality and system conformance with internal documents and ISO 9001/AS9100 requirements
  • Monitor, maintain, improve, and develop training plans
  • Improve documented inspection procedures and develop improved methods for inspection or testing in operations and quality
  • Communicate and implement containment plans as needed to identify and isolate non-conforming product
  • Ensure production stops are resolved satisfactorily before releasing
  • Conduct MSA on gage systems and take actions including the proposal/development of new gage systems to improve R&R
  • Collect, analyze, and communicate quality performance data for operations and quality, leading teams to drive quality performance
  • Drive cost improvement and productivity initiatives throughout the Quality Assurance and inspection functions
  • Analyze customer returns and internal inspection data and take actions necessary to improve
  • Ensure a high level of internal and external customer service including quick and effective response to customer issues and complaints relating to quality
  • Create and make modifications to CMM programs or laser programs as needed
  • Ensure compliance with certified operation requirements, ensuring initial certification requirements are met and ongoing certification thresholds are met, communicating performance data to the applicable departments
  • Maintain Quality Assurance records required by both the company and the customer
  • Travel as needed (roughly 25%) between Ceramic Group facilities in Sanford NC, Merida MX, Wickliffe OH, and Cleveland OH.
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience & Education                                             

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Material Sc. or related Engineering field. MS or MBA degree is desirable.
  • Prefer 3+ years of experience in a quality role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma Certification experience are desirable
