The State Water Resources Control Board’s Office of Enforcement is seeking a motivated Environmental Scientist to join the Cannabis Enforcement Unit. This position offers a unique opportunity to evaluate compliance alongside partnering regulators and law enforcement at illegal cannabis cultivation sites throughout California.
Position Highlights
- Location: 801 K Street, 23rd Floor, Sacramento – in the heart of downtown, steps from light rail and other public transportation.

About the Role
As an Environmental Scientist in the Cannabis Enforcement Unit, you will:
- Conduct inspections and investigations at cannabis cultivation sites statewide.
- Evaluate compliance with California Water Code and support law enforcement and other regulators in an effort to regulate non-compliant cannabis cultivation operations.
- Draft informal and formal enforcement actions, including Inspection Memos, Notices of Violation, Cleanup & Abatement Orders, Administrative Civil Liability Orders, and more.
- Utilize advanced tools and software including GIS/AGOL, Field Maps, Survey 123, Google Maps, and the California Integrated Water Quality System (CIWQS).
- Coordinate clean-up and abatement efforts with the State Water Board staff and legal counsel, Regional Water Boards, partner agencies, law enforcement, and responsible parties.
