This position is part of the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team and will be located in Bothell, WA. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.
The Cepheid Bothell site continues to expand its manufacturing and research capabilities, driving new chemical delivery, solvent storage, and waste management infrastructure projects. While rapid growth has fueled innovation, replacing legacy systems is a priority for process safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient operations.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Provide improved risk management for current delivery systems (argon, chemicals, waste), by updating critical Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and for new capital expansion projects, by supporting Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies.
Apply DBS tools to systematically evaluate potential failure points in existing systems and new designs. Ensure all documentation and risk evaluations are properly archived and integrated into site Quality engineering and EHS systems.
Together, these deliverables ensure that engineering documentation and risk evaluations at Bothell are accurate, comprehensive, and forward-looking, enabling safe, compliant, and efficient operations in alignment with both Cepheid's Management of Change (MOC) requirements and DBS continuous improvement principles.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Currently enrolled in a Chemistry, Biochemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or closely related program (B.S./M.S.).
Foundational chemical safety knowledge (e.g., understanding of SDSs, safe handling, labeling) and strong attention to detail in documentation.
Familiarity with process documentation (P&IDs, as‑built drawings) and basic proficiency with CAD or drawing tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Visio) or a demonstrated willingness to learn quickly.
Exposure to process risk assessment methods such as HAZOP and FMEA, and an interest in learning/using DBS problem‑solving methods during the internship.
Comfort working in lab/manufacturing environments with appropriate PPE and following established procedures.
Strong analytical, organization, and communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; ability to collaborate cross‑functionally (Facilities, Quality, Operations, EHS).
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Strong stakeholder engagement experience: able to connect with people at all levels, influence cross-functionally, and communicate effectively.
